During the course of his directorial career, Danny Boyle has proven himself to be adept in a variety of genres. After starting his career with Shallow Grave, A Life Less Ordinary, and cult favorite Trainspotting, he helmed The Beach and then broke out to some degree with the zombie flick 28 Days Later. In a complete departure from his earlier work, Boyle next did a charming family film, Millions, a project that incorporated numerous religious ideas.

Boyle moves another 180 degrees with his upcoming project, a sci-fi thriller tentatively called Sunshine. The story is set 50 years in the future, and the sun is dying away, which in turn is causing mankind to consider that its own extinction might be imminent. The only hope for long-term survival is a spaceship carrying a crew of eight men and women. The group hoping to be able to use a devise to re-ignite the dying star. But as they move forward with the voyage, they lose radio contact with Earth and things begin to go terribly wrong. Ultimately, the crew will fight not only for their lives, but also their sanity.

A terrific cast is lined up for this project, including Cillian Murphy (who worked with Boyle previously on 28 Days Later), Chris Evans (Fantastic Four), Cliff Curtis (Whale Rider), Benedict Wong (Dirty Pretty Things), Michelle Yeoh and Rose Byrne (Wicker Park). For those who are interested in following the production process, Murphy and Yeoh are maintaining a blog to document the behind-the-scenes activies. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
