From the people who brought you Town and Country...sold yet? IK, maybe that's not being completely fair to this romantic comedy starring the ever-so-busy John Cusak and Kate Beckinsale, who is fresh off her performance in Pearl Harbor. Nevertheless, Serendipity will always be linked to the biggest box-office bomb in history because they share the same director. For the purposes of forecasting box office, the name of the director is rarely important and is almost always a non-factor. In this case, that is a definite.

Romantic comedies have not fared well during this time of the year. In fact, not counting Practical Magic, room-coms have been completely murdered when released in October. With relatively small star power and a less-than-average early teaser trailer, Serendipity will find it a challenge to have an opening box office in double-digit millions. Relatively speaking, this genre does not do well, even for October releases.

Don't expect Serendipity to do much at the box office, and this will vary depending on what other options viewers have. Based on history and trend, the movie is not set to do well. (Walid Habboub/BOP)
