This film, written and directed by Kurt Voss, follows the rise and fall of a fictional all-girl rock band from Portland, Oregon named The Paper Dolls. We take a look at the underground world of punk rock through the eyes of these girls.

The band's leader, Kali (Nicole Barrett), is caught between a rock and a hard place. She wants to obtain superstardom in her musical career, but she doesn't want to give up the pursuit of her childhood crush, who has become a punk icon himself. But can both of her goals be satisfied? The other members of the group include a hardcore band hag (Zoe Poledouris) and a lesbian slut (Kinnie Starr). This formula just seems like a setting for disaster, doesn't it?

The movie was shot on digital video in late 2000 around Portland on a "shoestring" of only $1.2 million. Critics have pointed out some weaknesses in the script and acting, but overall they have been satisfied with the finished product. The film had its world premiere at the Karlovy Vary Film Festival and has been "making the rounds" ever since. You may even get a chance to see it in an independent film venue near you soon. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
