Loosely based on the real-life story of 50 Cent, Get Rich or Die Tryin' is the tale of an inner city drug dealer who turns from his life of crime in order to pursue a career in rap music. 50 Cent himself will portray the lead character in the film.

Following the 8 Mile model, the movie will take an established rap star and join him with a respected director to let the onscreen story unfold. Just as Eminem worked with Academy Award nominee/winner Curtis Hanson for the semi-autobiographical story of the young rapper, this time around we'll see 50 Cent work with Jim Sheridan (In America). The screenplay comes from one of the writers on The Sopranos, Terence Winter.

Another commonality 50 Cent's film will have with 8 Mile is release date. After 8 Mile found outstanding success with a debut in early November of 2002, so will Get Rich or Die Tryin' look to replicate that same pattern as it hits screens in November of 2005. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
