The Nature of Enchantment is a film project which hearkens back to Terry Gilliam's The Fisher King. The similar concept here is that a young boy is found in New York City. The feral orphan is befriended by the psychiatrist (workaholic Michael Caine) charged to treat him.

As the doctor interacts with his young patient, he comes to realize that the boy sees the world in an unexpected fashion. To the child, Gotham is a fairytale land of mythical creatures. Even Caine's character appears to him to be a troll, albeit a nice one. The doctor surprises even himself by coming to see the world from the boy's point of view. To the alarm of his colleagues and daughter (Kristin Scott Thomas), the psychiatrist enables the boy's fantasy world. The duo go on a visit to the ogre's castle in order to discover the cause of the boy's dysfunction.

Finally, the psychiatrist begins to have dark visions of his dead co-worker (Danny DeVito). His presumed madness places Caine's character in danger, causing the boy to eventually go on a mystical journey to save his newfound friend. (David Mumpower/BOP)
