Salon.com once did a relatively famous confessional piece regarding 9/11. Various New York City residents wrote emails confessing their darkest thoughts during the period after the terrorist attacks. The comments universally acknowledged a dramatic behavioral shift in the hours, days and months after the tragic events. It was only a matter of time until some filmmaker became bold enough to do a fictional exploration predicated upon this theme. The Great New Wonderful is the first such movie, though it's safe to say that many others will eventually follow.

Set against the backdrop of the worst terrorist attack ever implemented on American soil, the film will explore five different story arcs that all dovetail into one another in some fashion. The main one revolves around an older and young woman who compete against each other in the "high-stakes, high-society pastry game." Don't kid yourselves, people. There is a crepe war being fought in the trenches each day whether you acknowledge it or not.

The roles of the competing pastry chefs are played by Maggie Gyllenhaal and Edie Falco. Other cast members include the man called Monk, Tony Shalhoub, Olympia Dukakis, and Thomas McCarthy. If you are unfamiliar with that last name, he was the writer/director of the instant classic, The Station Agent. He will be working only as an actor on this project, though. (David Mumpower/BOP)
