Comic book readers know the name of Brian Michael Bendis very well. The man is arguably the hottest writer in the industry today. None other than Todd McFarlane himself chose Bendis to write the Spawn spin-offs of Hellspawn and Sam & Twitch. The scribe's pedigree is impeccable and recently, he has been looking to expand into other fields. With Jinx, Bendis is taking a leap into the movie realm.

Who or what is Jinx? A prequel of sorts to the popular Bendis book, Goldfish, Jinx continues upon the author's favorite theme: the lawless nature of urban street life and how analogous it is to the Wild West's days of yore. The character of David "Goldfish" Gold is a small time grifter forced to work a job with Columbia, a thug he doesn't like. The two men are suddenly accosted by a car driven by two dying henchmen. One of these guys gasps the secret location of a stash of loot before giving up the ghost.

The difficulty Goldfish and Columbia face is that to recover the $3 million mentioned, the men must set aside their animus and work together. The uneasy alliance works well enough at first, but then a gorgeous female bounty hunter named Jinx enters the equation. Goldfish and Jinx quickly fall in love, leaving Columbia to question whether he would rather split the loot three ways or keep it all to himself.

Even worse, the real owners of the cash have discovered it's gone missing. Needless to say, they want it back. Goldfish and Jinx must fight enemies within and without while trying to determine whether they trust one another.

To hear Bendis describe the genesis of the Jinx character is to become immediately intrigued. Having made the decisions involving who the character would be, the graphic novelist was fortuitous enough to encounter a woman who perfectly fit the mental image he had for Jinx. As he engaged the woman in conversation about her profession, she described herself as being exactly like Robert De Niro in Midnight Run.

Given this assertion and the knowledge that bounty hunting was a relatively untapped genre of modern cinema (Midnight Run being the only well recognized recent one), Bendis was able to vividly recreate a graphic novel representation of such a woman. Now, he will attempt to make a fully detailed theatrical version as well. 2004 Academy Award winning actress Charlize Theron is the rumored casting choice for the titular lead with other roster additions expected to be named in the coming months.
