Mexicali is the most on again/off again production this side of Bennifer. Originally scheduled for principal photography in the fall of 2000, the project was crippled by the folding of Desination Films. Eventually, Screen Gems acquired the rights, but when the rising Sony brand put the production into turnaround, MGM swooped in to grab another project for their franchise player, Pierce Brosnan. Pietro Scalia, the Academy Award winning film editor of Black Hawk Down, will make his directorial debut here.
The current James Bond will portray a successful businessman enjoying his honeymoon. Events take a turn for the dramatic when Brosnan's character and his stunning young bride are yachting off the coast of Baja. They witness a souring drug deal, causing the new Mrs. to wind up shot, missing and (presumably) kidnapped. The groom must figure out a way to track down his bride and get them both back to the friendly confines of the United States without further bloodshed. (David Mumpower/BOP)
