Digg Button
In the proud tradition of such female empowerment stories as The Princess Diaries, What a Girl Wants, Chasing Liberty and The Lizzie McGuire movie, we get another "every girl dreams of being a princess" story, this time starring the talented Julia Stiles.

Stiles plays Paige, an independent young woman and pre-med student from Wisconsin who is confident about her life plan. Little does she know that a boy will soon throw all her carefully concocted strategies into turmoil (oh no -- a conundrum!).

It seems that Edward, AKA the Crown Prince of Denmark, is looking to escape from the royal life he never wanted. Naturally, Wisconsin is his destination of choice (must be a Packers fan), and he totally coincidentally winds up at the same college as our heroine Paige. The thing is, he's posing as just a simple serf named Eddie, a regular guy who's trying to get his college degree.

Paige meets this "Eddie" fellow and they fall head over heels in love. The thing that she doesn't know (and he politely neglects to tell her) is that he's next in line of succession to become king. When Paige discovers the truth, she must choose between her dream of becoming a doctor and the fairytale life of a princess. What will she do? WHAT WILL SHE DO!!!???

Anyone who has seen this trailer knows that the film is as cliché-ridden as any in recent memory. Still, the teenage girl demographic really goes for well-marketed "Princess Stories." Unfortunately, without the Disney machine behind the advertising plan (this is a Paramount project), the best thing The Prince and Me has to offer is the prospect of a scenery-chewing Miranda Richardson as the Queen of Denmark. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
