Jason Lee takes center stage in this story about a guy who turns to a life of crime in order to pay his niece's tuition to a prestigious university. Along the way, his girlfriend and his best friend pull him in a number of different directions. Tom Green plays the bad seed best friend, and Linda Cardinelli (Freaks and Geeks) plays the niece.

While Lee has appeared in a number of films that have seen varying degrees of success, You Promised looks to be his first time as the featured star. While he certainly has a loyal following, Lee's name alone isn't enough to guarantee a strong box-office take. The casting of Green would appear to be the wild card. If his name registers the kind of scorn currently reserved for the likes of Pauly Shore by the time You Promised is released, his presence could even wind up being a deterrent to potential viewers.

On the other hand, You Promised is being distributed by Joe Roth's Revolution Studios. Roth's recent track record has been rather impressive (The Animal, America's Sweethearts), and if this film gets a decent marketing push and Lee's comedic talent is showcased effectively, we could be looking at a modest hit. The film's has been changed from You Promised to Stealing Harvard. So far, it's had those two titles in addition to Stealing Stanford, Uncle, Stealing U. and The Promise. (Kim Hollis/BOP)

Once again, the film has been shuffled around the release schedule. At one time, it was scheduled for an August 16th release before moving to October, and now it is set for September. Additionally, Linda Cardellini never made it to this film due to conflicts with Scooby-Doo. Tammy Blanchard took her place. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
