Definitely, Maybe takes a very novel approach for a chick flick. It stars Ryan Reynolds as Will, a 30-something man living in Manhattan and about to go through a divorce. When his daughter, ten-year-old Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts questioning him about what his life was like before marriage, he has quite a set of stories to share with her. She is totally curious about how her parents met and fell in love, but the tale is not a simple one.
Will takes his daughter back to 1992, when he is an idealistic young man who moves from Wisconsin to New York so that he might work on Bill Clinton's campaign. As he learns all about politics in a metropolis, he also has some romantic and friendly relationships with three women - all unique and extremely different from one another. He changes the names in his story so that Maya will have to guess which one is her mother - and the woman he married.
The three women in question are Emily (Elizabeth Banks), Will's college sweetheart and a girl-next-door type, April (Isla Fisher), his longtime best friend and someone who has no political feelings at all, and Summer (Rachel Weisz) an ambitious journalist and a bit of a free spirit. Maya begins to put the pieces of the puzzle together, coming to understand that love isn't always easy. And yet, Maya helps her father to understand that it's never too late to find a happy ending.
Definitely, Maybe is written and directed by Adam Brooks, whose previous experience in the genre includes handling the screenplays for Wimbledon and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. It has a great chance to be the top choice for Valentine's Day. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
