Loosely based on Lewis Padgett's well-loved short science fiction tale (Mimsy Were the Borogoves), this film will follow two children who find a strange and mysterious box. When they look inside this box, the kids see toys. Oddly enough, though, as the kids play more and more, they become more and more intelligence. The children's teachers note that they have grown far beyond their grade level and well into levels of genius. When the stunned parents try to figure out what is happening, young Emma tells her mother that her ragged stuff toy rabbit, Mimzy, is teaching her things.

Naturally, the plot thickens as a blackout shuts down the city and the power surge is traced back to the home of the children. The kids claim that their toys have been sent to them on a mission, and that they have a crucial message from the future. What exactly could be happening?

The Last Mimzy is directed by Robert Shaye, who just happens to be founder, Co-Chairman and Co-CEO of New Line Cinema. As for the cast, in addition to newcomers Rhiannon Leigh Wryn and Chris O'Neil as the children, the movie features Timothy Hutton, Joely Richardson, Rainn Wilson and Michael Clarke Duncan. The movie looks like something that might have come from M. Night Shyamalan on a really, really good day, which gives us high hopes for the end result. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
