An intimate, well-shot concert film that is more for Young fans than the general public. That said, even this fan doesn't love the new material...it's the classics that make this worthwhile. |
Originally titled Prairie Wind, this documentary concert feature took place at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium on August 18-19, 2005. Director Jonathan Demme reserved the location especially for the filming of the concert, which features songs from Neil Young's upcoming album - performed live for the very first time - along with performances by Emmylou Harris, Wayne Jackson of the Memphis Horns, the Fisk University Jubilee Singers and Carl Gorodetsky and the 12-piece Nashville String Machine.
The movie looks to be a true celebration of music as well as life. Young recently found himself diagnosed with a life-threatening brain aneurysm, but was fortunate to be able to have surgery to correct the situation. The classic rocker has a lot of fans behind him, and with distribution support from Paramount Classics, the film should be a good, niche release. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
