A story that centers on five interweaving lives, Heights is set during one summer night in the nightspots, theaters, and streets of Manhattan. From Merchant Ivory Films, the story's center is a beautiful 25-year-old photographer named Isabel, a woman wavering on her commitment to her impending wedding. Her mother, Diana, is a famous actress who has learned that her husband is cheating.

Meanwhile, Isabel's fiancé Jonathan is attempting to hide a secret that could put his upcoming wedding in jeopardy. The other men in the tale are Peter, a young writer who is looking into his lover's past while researching a story for a magazine article, and Alec, an actor who is wondering if the affections he feels for one person might ever be returned.

As Isabel tries to decide between continuing her life in New York City and the potential prospect of becoming a suburban wife with a quiet - and possibly dull - existence, the audience is given a Jane Austen-esque story in which its characters must make their decisions all in the course of one evening.
