Movie re-make haters, beware. The following description is going to be disconcerting. Avert your eyes if need be.

Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, the 1967 classic about the complexities of interracial relationships, is being re-made in 2005.

And the film stars Ashton Kutcher.

Please don't shoot the messenger.

Now that you have had a moment to regain composure, I am going to say something equally blasphemous. The new version sounds like a lot of fun. Bernie Mac, the original king of comedy, will be undertaking the Spencer Tracy role while Kutcher will be the Sidney Poitier character.

As you have probably inferred, The Dinner Party turns the tables on the original. The new version of the story still sees a father becoming awkwardly upset with his daughter for her interracial relationship. The difference is that he is black, his daughter is black, and she is dating quite possibly the whitest man in the world (Screech excepted).

The thought of Bernie Mac beating on Ashton Kutcher over the course of an entire movie strikes me as hilarious but if you still want to be outraged, I understand. The good news I do have for you, though, is that the director of the film is Kevin Rodney Sullivan. Currently reigning triumphant from his Barbershop 2: Back in Business performance, Sullivan has already successfully broached the subject of awkward relationships and the difficulty in explaining them once before with How Stella Got Her Groove Back. His presence behind the helm should at least take the bile out of your mouth over the film's existence, anyway. (David Mumpower/BOP)
