Position Staff In Brief
55/60 Les Winan Unbelievable. Incredible. Amazing. All those words apply if you add "-ly bad" to them. Simply horrible.
160/166 David Mumpower Unquestionably the worst movie concept of the year. Fails on every level.

Digg Button
Imagine, if you will, that the adorable but somehow creepy robot-boy David from Steven Spielberg's A.I. Artificial Intelligence is all grown up into a big boy robot. Instead of choosing the life of a gigolo like his good friend Jude Law, he instead opts for a career in the skies.

Now, as we have learned from the Terminator and Matrix series of films, it's only a matter of time before the A.I. creations that are currently so willing to be our slaves will rise up in revolution against us. Stealth, Sony's planned tentpole release for Summer 2005, will look at the very early stages of just such a revolution.

Set in the no-so-distant future, Stealth will tell the story of an artificial intelligence pilot that is used by the Naval Air Force. To properly learn its combat skills, it must work alongside actual human pilots who are well-trained and accomplished in the areas the A.I. hopes to mimic.

To the surprise of no one who has ever thought that Google will someday gain sentience and take over the world, the A.I. pilot soon starts to develop ideas of his own, causing it to become a dangerous rogue. To contend with this potentially devastating situation, human pilots are sent to do battle. Among their number are Josh Lucas (Sweet Home Alabama), Jamie Foxx (Any Given Sunday) and Jessica Biel (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre).

While it may seem that this trio is an odd choice to headline a tentpole film, it's important to keep in mind that in films where the effects are the thing, the cast becomes almost secondary. Even so, the producers of the film are quite confident that Lucas is ready to break through to leading man status (and he will have appeared in several additional films by the time Stealth is released).

Director Rob Cohen will once again bring his particular eye for special effects, action-laden popcorn flicks to the table. Previously the helmer of films such as The Fast and the Furious and xXx, Cohen knows a little something about pleasing audiences with slick and cutting edge ideas.

Look for Stealth to surface during the hot summer box office season of 2005. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
