After writing the first two installments in the Blade movie franchise, David Goyer will try his hand at directing as he helms the third film in the series, which is tentatively titled Trinity. Goyer will direct from his own script for New Line Cinemas, who plans on releasing the film at the tail end of the summer of 2004.
The film will reportedly pit Blade against the most pure and evil vampire ever as well as have him face off against the humans as he becomes the target of a manhunt.
This project will be Goyer’s second foray into direction after having compiled a very impressive resume. If he can capture the energy of the first Blade film and mix it with the style and eye candy levels reached by the sequel, Blade 3: Trinity should be very exciting. (Walid Habboub/BOP)

Ryan Reynolds has been signed to play Hannibal King, a white hat character from the comic books who is key member of a team of vampire hunters called the Nightstalkers. While he's probably not the first actor that leaps to mind when I think "edgy comic book vampire movie," Reynolds is charismatic as all hell and can always be depended upon to rise about the dubious material he's had to work with so far in his career (see, e.g., National Lampoon's Van Wilder or any episode of Two Guys, a Girl and a Yet Another New Title).

And the casting news just keeps on coming. The Hollywood Reporter indicates that 7th Heaven star/Gear covergirl Jessica Biel has joined the cast. Biel will play Whistler's daughter (not to be confused with Whistler's Mother, who is more prone to sitting in her rocker than battling the undead), an ass kicking, vampire slaying tough grrrrrl. Australian actor Dominic Purcell (he's hoping he's best known for his role as the lead on the TV series John Doe, rather than his role as "Kelb" on the tv series Beastmaster) has joined the cast as the lead villian. Blade:Trinity has now been moved to December 10th from its original release date of August 13th. No reason has been given for the move and the film will now face stiff competition from Ocean's Twelve, the sequel to Ocean's Eleven. (Walid Habboub/BOP)
