Twin filmmakers Michael and Mark Polish work together to bring us this philosophical and surrealistic film. They had a lot of help from cinematographer David Mullen to create the unique look for this film.

It is set in 1955 in the town of Northfork, Montana. The government wants to build a dam in the natural basin where Northfork is located. However, there are still a few locals that don’t want to leave their homes. The Evacuation Committee hires two teams of slick salesmen types (James Woods/Mark Polish and Peter Coyote/Jon Gries) to get these people to leave. They’ve promised these guys lakefront properties if they can convince them to abandon their homes.

A subplot is about a sickly orphan named Irwin (Duel Farnes) who has lapsed into a coma and is being watched over by the local priest (Nick Nolte). In his comatose state, Irwin encounters an eccentric family. He tries to convince them that he should be allowed to go with them on their quest for the Unknown Angel. Even though they are very different, these two threads are eventually brought together.

2003 Sundance Film Festival audiences enjoyed this film and were very impressed with the movie’s visuals. Be sure to keep a close eye out for this film. The distributor may be a bit wary of giving this film much of a chance at theaters because the Polish Brothers last film, Jackpot, struggled greatly and made under $50,000 in 11 weeks of release.
