Few details are available yet regarding this developing Dana Carvey (remember him?) comedy vehicle, in which it is assumed that Carvey will portray the Master of Disguise himself.

What is known is that Carvey is co-writing the script, and SNL-alumnus savior Adam Sandler is backing the film with his bucks as executive producer. Columbia Pictures (AKA Sony) has announced that filming will begin in September of 2001, aiming for a spring 2002 release. As yet, Master of Disguise has no announced or attached supporting cast, but Perry Andelin Blake, who has previously been an art and production designer on several of Sandler's films, will break into directing with this film.

Anyone with a television and a cable hook-up that includes Comedy Central can't say that they haven't seen Dana Carvey lately, but it has been a while since Carvey shined in a starring role on the big screen. In fact, it's been nearly seven years since The Shot (remember that one?) arrived and vanished from moviegoers' memories. Considering Carvey's undeniable comedic talents, it would indeed be a shame if his best-known character, Garth in Wayne's World I and II, wound up being the landmark of his cinematic career.

Plot details are essentially non-existent right now, but the concept of a masterful artist of deception is nothing new in realm of comedic cinema, as both Chevy Chase in the Fletch series and Peter Sellers in the Pink Panther franchise exploited it to maximum farcical effect. (Cal Hubbard/BOP)

The film has now been moved up to the first weekend in August. An important addition to Master of Disguise's fact sheet is that it is being targeted as a family film.
