Director Nick Broomfield has a knack for taking a premise that at first makes you think he's seen one too many black helicopters and presenting it in a way that, if not completely proving it as true, at least gives it plausibility and makes you think. Last seen making the case that Courtney Love was directly responsible for Kurt Cobain's death in Kurt & Courtney, Broomfield now takes on the still unsolved murders of Tupac Shakur and Biggie Smalls. Passed off in the media as the result of an ongoing rivalry between East Coast and West Coast hip hop artists, Broomfield uses his gutsy, guerilla style of documentary to explore the friendship that turned to rivalry between Biggie and Tupac and their untimely demises.
