Eugene Jarecki directs this documentary inspired by the book of the same name by Christopher Hitchens. Alex Gibney makes his feature-film debut working on the script.

The filmmakers investigated various allegations against Dr. Kissinger that he was involved in several international events with disastrous results. Among them are the overthrow of Allende in Chile (see: The Pinochet Case), causing the Vietnam War to drag on, and the massacres by Suharto in East Timor. The film has interviews with both supporters of Kissinger (Alexander Haig and Brent Scowcroft) and his opponents (Hitchens and William Shawcross). They had to edit many hours of interview and historical footage to get this into an acceptable run-time for viewers.

The film made its debut at the 2002 Human Rights Watch International Film Festival (they have a film festival for everything, don't they?). It has been well received by critics and moviegoers alike. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
