For some reason, Hollywood thinks that the average Joe must find it hilarious when wealthy people get sent to the sticks and put out of their element. Why else would they inundate us with crap like New in Town and now, Did You Hear About the Morgans? Yes, there can be intrinsic humor value in putting confident, smart people out of their element and into situations where they must improvise and acclimate. Such stuff requires a deft touch, though, and we're instead usually clobbered over the head.

Did You Hear About the Morgans? stars Hugh Grant and Sarah Jessica Parker as successful Manhattanites who seem to have it all. They're wealthy, smart, and social, but their marriage does seem to be crumbling. One day, they witness a murder and become targets themselves. In an attempt to protect their key witnesses to a horrible crime, the Feds send the couple off to Wyoming, where they'll live in the Rocky Mountains and learn to deal without their Blackberries. Oh, the horror!

Grant has had some success with this silly sort of December rom-com previously with Two Weeks Notice, but the honest evaluation is that both he and Parker are getting a little long in the tooth. He's never been a huge guarantee of box office, and Parker only is if she's in movies called Sex in the City. Did You Hear About the Morgans? isn't likely to change those facts any time soon.
