This Mexican film broke records in Mexico, including the biggest opening ever for a Mexican film. It promises to make an impact in other venues as well. The film has been nominated for a Golden Globe Award in the Best Foreign-Language Film category and has won other awards at film festivals as well.
This coming of age movie is about two 17-year-old best friends, Julio and Tenoch, who are hoping for a summer of promiscuity. When Tenoch's cousin's wife Luisa shows up at a wedding they're attending, they decide to put their plan into action. They talk about a road trip to an imaginary beach resort. Luisa, whose having some struggles of her own, decides to come along. Of course, some sexual action takes place with both guys, which leads to the members of the group not speaking to one another.
This film is set apart from the typical road trip film, in that along the way, we get to see a sampling of the rich Mexican culture. I'm sure that the Golden Globe nomination will get this film a wider theatrical release. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
