Not to be confused with the makers of Date Movie, Epic Movie and Disaster Movie or the makers of Superhero Movie or the makers of Scary Movie 3 and 4. No, this movie is from an entirely different artistic perspective. The filmmakers that brought you Not Another Teen Movie and The Comebacks bring you yet another spoof of all things teen-movie related. This genre is so far away from its creative peak (Airplane, Naked Gun and even the first Scary Movie), that we all can only hope this dies a slow painful death. Judging by the recent grosses of Superhero Movie and Disaster Movie, it looks like a forgone conclusion.

Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), Jamie Kennedy (Scream), and Michael Cera round out the slapstick movie’s cast. WTF?! Michael Cera?! After being anointed this generation’s John Cusack with a resume that includes Arrested Development, Superbad, Juno, and Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist, Cera gets his first blemish. While Cusack has his fair share of clunkers, Cera probably should avoid starring in movies that send-up his trademark awkward teen roles. Fortunately, in this genre, some "nobody" or "has-been" will do that for him. I would rather Cera follow Nic Cage’s career trajectory and collect three mindless action paychecks than be in this crap! Actually the idea of Cera as an action hero seems very refreshing and enticing (hell, his TV dad did it in The Kingdom). Should he make the transition prior to beating his awkward shtick into the ground, I had better get a percentage of his The Rock II earnings.

Anyways, Extreme Movie was originally scheduled to be a straight-to-DVD release, but apparently Dimension Films has enough faith in to release it in time for the holidays, looking to replicate the $38 million Not Another Teen Movie made in 2001.

They should be so lucky. (Joel West/BOP)
