This film had its world premiere at AFI Fest 2001 and if the early buzz is any indication, Halle Berry may be looking at an Oscar nomination for her role.
The story is about three generations of racists in rural Georgia. The main action revolves around Hank (Billy Bob Thornton), a prison guard who gets involved with Leticia (Halle Berry), the widow of a prisoner (Sean Combs) he executed. Peter Boyle plays Hank's bigoted father -- and you can imagine how he feels about this situation. Also, up-and-comer Heath Ledger plays Hank's son, who is trying to get out of this environment.
Director Marc Forster won the Someone To Watch Award at the 2001 Independent Spirit Awards. It seems like they may have been correct in predicting big things for him. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
