Position Staff In Brief
78/169 Max Braden I get that dark is the point here but it's still a touch too dark to enjoy. I did crack up at the Flash Gordon music though.
81/82 Kelly Metz Total waste of time. Skip it.

Talk about someone who should have no problem getting a girl knocked up. Seth Rogen is a man on a roll. His last five films have comprised of the aforementioned Knocked Up (which catapulted him into stardom among most Americans), Superbad, the moderately successful The Spiderwick Chronicles, Horton Hears A Who! and Kung Fu Panda. And not only does he have another Judd Apatow film coming up, but a second DreamWorks Animation film looms for Summer 2009 with The Green Hornet coming in 2010 . . . a film in which Rogen plays actor, writer and executive producer.

I think it suffices to say that there are worse people to be in Hollywood, right now, than Seth Rogen.

But you’re not here to hear me brag about Rogen’s career. You’re here to read about Observe and Report. This film will likely be a minor blip on what should end up as a great year for Rogen. The film itself is helmed by Jody Hill, another Apatow alumni, in his first experience in the director’s chair. Along with Rogen, the film stars Anna Faris and Ray Liotta in a story about a deluded, self-important head of mall security (Rogen) that squares off in a turf war against the local cops.

There’s a fine line between stupid-funny and stupid . . . and with this type of premise, cinematic tone is everything. Hill will have to bend all her directing talents (assuming she has some) on balancing Rogen and Faris’ comedic chops while capitalizing on with Liotta’s acting talent. The result could be a great farce or a muddled comedic mess more befitting of Family Guy than the big screen (apologies to any Family Guy fans out there). (Jason Lee/BOP)
