The breasts almost draw attention away from the horrible makeup.

Position Staff In Brief
44/82 Kelly Metz Not a bad movie, and Jennifer Garner is so damn adorable as always, but I think Matthew McConaughey is too old to be playing the playboy-bachelor-in-a-romantic-comedy roles.
141/169 Max Braden It's so unfortunate that it's so easy for McConaughey to slip into this typical drivel.

Digg Button
No, this is not a horror movie about embittered dumpees who come back from the dead in order to haunt a two-timing womanizer…although I am sure that idea just became several of your next screenplays. Just give me an associate producer credit is all I ask.

Anyway, the title of this film is quite misleading in that it is an update on Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Story. Matthew McConaughey, everyone’s favorite nude bongo player, plays Connor, a man attending his brother’s wedding. Rather than hooking up with the various bridesmaids as any self-respecting man-slut would do, he spends the body of the film having odd encounters with, you guessed it, girlfriends and ex-girlfriends. Specifically, ghosts of Girlfriends Past, Present and Future take him on various journeys of self-discovery wherein Connor is shown the error of his ways. He has mistreated women, taken them for granted, and forced them to listen to endless bongo solos. It’s no way for a man to live. Presumably, by the end of the film, he has an epiphany about his behavior, matures as a person, and finally expresses his deepest emotions to a long-suffering girlfriend.

If you haven’t swallowed your tongue in reading the above, I do have some good news. The rest of the cast is pretty good. Jennifer Garner, Michael Douglas, Robert Forster, Anne Archer, Emma Stone and Lacey Chabert are included. Also, Breckin Meyer is in the movie. The film is directed by Mark Waters, who is coming off a middling fantasy project, The Spiderwick Chronicles. He did, however, direct three successful projects prior to that with Just Like Heaven, the Freaky Friday re-make and Mean Girls. So, he has some expertise in the genre, even if he is stuck with a silly premise this time. (David Mumpower/BOP)
