An Italian film with English subtitles, The Way We Laughed tells the story of two brothers who have emigrated from Sicily to Turin in the late '50s. The older brother works hard so that his younger sibling can break free from poverty by obtaining culture. Unfortunately, the young man hates school, would rather work, and behaves very poorly, leading to a dramatic and violent turn as he grows up.

With themes ranging from racism to exploitation, The Way We Laughed premiered in Italy as long ago as 1998, and has been making the festival rounds ever since. It will receive a very limited release in New York City, with the slight possibility for some level of expansion afterward. It is highly unlikely to have any effect on the box office.
