If you think about it, wedding dresses are really dumb looking.

On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
6/10 Amanda Jones A couple of cute lines made me not absolutely hate this film, but it was pretty bad.
89/98 David Mumpower Offensive to men, women, dogs, cats, trees and especially dresses.
101/196 Max Braden It seems like they just followed the You've Got Mail playbook here. I did actually like the 'learning to say no' scene.

Digg Button
The screenwriter of The Devil Wears Prada is responsible for the script of this film, which is decidedly in the chick flick category. Katherine Heigl, who found movie success as the female lead in Knocked Up, stars here as Jane, a young woman who is entirely selfless. She puts the feelings of others before her own, and as a result, she's found very little time to make herself happy. This kind-hearted nature is exemplified in her willingness to always be the bridesmaid and never the bride. In fact, she has worn 27 different bridesmaid dresses (hence, the title of the film) as she has helped friends marry the men of their dreams.

Jane does harbor a secret love, though. She has hidden feelings for her boss (Ed Burns), but is terrified to let him know. Soon, it becomes too late to share these emotions with the man she loves, because he falls for Jane's sister Tess and asks her to marry him. Naturally, Jane finds herself looking at being a bridesmaid once again.

The good news is that once this happens, it's as if Jane receives a kick in the pants. She begins to reexamine her feelings and realizes that sometimes she needs to let herself come first. And perhaps the person she's really looking for might be right there in front of her. In fact, he probably looks a lot like James Marsden, who'll be coming off another romantic comedy (albeit of the family kind) in Enchanted. It seems like a pretty by-the-numbers project, but Heigl is charming enough and has a nice following from Grey's Anatomy that might follow her to the big screen. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
