Don't compare my television accomplishments to hers!

On the Big Board
Position Staff In Brief
2/22 Amanda Jones Proves that movies don't need to be believable in order to be enjoyable. Great
3/46 Les Winan Seth Rogen may be an unlikely leading man, but he sure does a great job. The entire cast is terrific and the movie is outstanding.
4/34 Dan Krovich Funny and insightful.
5/50 Michael Bentley Perhaps a tad funnier if you've experienced the ups and downs of a pregnancy, but I'm amazed at how well it blends the chick flick with guy humor.
6/48 Kim Hollis Seth Rogen is hilarious and sweet. This is a film I'll enjoy again and again. God bless Judd Apatow.
18/214 Max Braden I'd compare this to The Break-Up for some of the harshness the characters throw at each other. The Heigl-Rogen chemistry isn't as good as theirs with other characters.

Digg Button
This is the number one fear of every human being who is in a one night stand. Forget the STDs or the awkwardness of running into the person later but not being able to remember their name. Those are blips on the Paranoia Radar compared to the fear of accidental pregnancy. Sure, a couple of hours of hot sex with a stranger is the fantasy that has made Harlequin Romances bestsellers for decades now...Penthouse Forum, too. The dark and scary downside we all worry about, however, is that the seed might find its way to Fertilization Town, suddenly making two people who don’t know each other’s favorite color prospective parents. That thought is terrifying enough.

Now imagine if Seth Rogen were the father.

You might have seen every horror release of the past five years, yet I guarantee you that this is the scariest thought you have had in that period. I mean, come on. That’s the guy who delivers your pizza. He’s not the guy with whom you debate boys names and preschool quality. Such is the danger of a great nightclub and a few too many drinks. Suddenly, that doof who cleans your pool is the one you have to debate whether you want holding your hand during the delivery.

Knocked Up takes this premise and runs with it. Hollywood hit-maker Judd Apatow follows up his $109.2 million success directing The 40 Year-Old Virgin and $110.3 million success writing the Fun with Dick and Jane re-make with this project. He re-unites with Rogen, whom he has tutored in Freaks and Geeks as well as the Fox comedy, Undeclared. Rogen has been promoted from bit player, a role he played to perfection in The 40-Year-Old Virgin, into romantic lead, a role that frankly nobody in the world ever believed he could play. The results could be exciting or disastrous. There does not seem to be a lot of in between here.

Grey’s Anatomy star Katherine Heigl portrays the lead actress, she of the knocked up-ness. Apatow faves Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann (aka Mrs. Apatow) are also onboard as the friends who quip about the humorous aspects of having a baby with a complete stranger. BOP recently lauded Knocked Up as our most anticipated movie of the summer of 2007 over competition such as the third films in the Spider-Man, Shrek, Rush Hour and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises. This says it all about how excited we are by this premise. We expect Knocked Up to be yet another instant Apatow classic. (David Mumpower/BOP)
