Life or Something Like It

Angelina Jolie makes her first venture into romantic comedy as Seattle television reporter Lanie Kerrigan. Lanie leads a very superficial, shallow life, even though she thinks she has it all; an all-star baseball player for a boyfriend, a beautiful apartment, and even a chance to land a big network assignment. This ideal world begins to come apart when she interviews a homeless man named Prophet Jack (Tony Shalhoub) for a fluff piece about a football game. This savant instead tells her that her life is meaningless, and that she will die the following week. As his other predictions begin to come true, Lanie starts to re-examine her life and her priorities, which includes rejuvenating a relationship with a cameraman, who is played by Ed Burns.
Life or Something Like It is directed by Stephen Herek, who previously helmed Rock Star, Mr. Holland's Opus, and Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. John Scott Shepherd (Joe Somebody) and Dana Stevens (For Love of the Game, City of Angels) share screenwriting credits.
Though Original Sin, Jolie's follow-up to the blockbuster hit Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, was a complete flop, audiences may be intrigued to see her as the focal character in a comedy. With a solid supporting cast which includes Burns, Shalhoub, Stockard Channing and Christian Kane (best known from TV's Angel), 20th Century Fox may find themselves with a modest hit.
