Peter O'Fallon's follow up to his 1997 film Suicide Kings is a bit of a departure for the second-time director. The movie is based on the novel Thy Son Liveth Messages From a Soldier to His Mother, by Grace Duffie Boylan,
A Rumor Of Angels is the story of a boy named James, who is having a difficult time dealing with his mother's tragic and untimely death. James' father has become distant and he despises his new stepmother so he spends most of his time alone. During their summer trip to Maine, as James walks along the beach as he has become accustomed to doing, he breaks a fence belonging to an elderly lady who likes her privacy as much as James does.
Maddy, played by Vanessa Redgrave, helps James cope with life by telling him things to inspire him and lift his spirits. While James is learning to cope with his mother's death, his father and stepmother find out about his budding relationship with Maddy who has a reputation of being a strange, and possibly dangerous, old lady. Their fears are projected at Maddy and James is caught between his new friend and his happiness and giving in to the grief he has been living in since his mother's death.
Catherine McCormack and Ray Liotta also star in the indie film, which will debut in New York and Los Angeles with possible plans for a platform release. (Walid Habboub/BOP)
