Writer/director Joe Maggio returns after his 2001 debut film, Virgil Bliss, struck a chord with the indie crowd. Milk and Honey is a darkly humorous tale about a couple living in New York and their night-long experience with near-disaster.
Rick (Clint Jordan) and Joyce (Kirsten Russell) are a married couple whose relationship is on the brink. After a horrid party where Rick is supposed to be reintroduced to his colleagues after what most suppose to have been a breakdown, he heads out to the streets. He moves around to see the various people in his life, including his girlfriend and his shrink. Rick even offers a stranger money to kill him. Meanwhile, Joyce is out on her own excursion.
Hal Hartley fans will be pleased to know he composed the film’s score, and also that the film recalls that director’s early work. (Kim Hollis/BOP)
