The Curse of the Bambino. The Pesky Pole. The Green Monster. The Yankees rivalry. The Carlton Fisk home run. All of these are indelibly etched into the long and storied history of the Boston Red Sox. Now, this baseball franchise that shares a unique relationship with its fans -- one that has withstood years of heartbreak, crushing collapses, stunning highs, and tragic lows -- will be documented in a feature-length film that chronicles the 2003 season.

Subtitled "85 Years Without a Ring and Still Happily Married, the film will cover the team's journey all the way from spring training to the regular season to their classic and melodramatic match-up with the New York Yankees in the ALCS championship. The documentary will feature candid and personal footage from the perspective of the players, the coaches and even the upper-level management. Also fascinating will be a look at the teams ups and downs through the eyes of nine different fans.

The film's release is set to coincide with the beginning of the 2004 season, and will get its theatrical run started with a celebrity invitational premiere in Boston. This will be followed by an exclusive debut in 15 Boston-area teams, and then the film will expand to 100 New England screens before hitting theaters nationwide throughout the spring and summer.

Specialty distributor ThinkFilm, which previously found success with the charming documentary Spellbound, will be handling North American distribution. Clips of the movie - including conversations with Pedro Martinez, Larry Lucchino, and a fan named Angry Bill - are currently available for viewing at the Official Boston Red Sox Web site.
