I'm not saying there is anything *wrong* with Chuck-E-Cheese per se.

Once in a while a film comes along with a simple story, but it ends up being a very powerful film. To have this quality come from a first-time director/writer is even more rare. Nir Bergman does just this with this offering.

As I mentioned, the story is not complex at all. An Israeli mother (Orly Silbersatz Banai) goes through the tragedy of losing her husband. She must cope with her own grief, as well as taking care of her four children. The economic situation they’re in also weighs heavily on her mind. No spies, no aliens, no psychological twists. It’s just a good solid story with a wonderful ensemble cast.

This movie was Israel’s submission in the Foreign Language category for the 2003 Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. But that hasn’t stopped this film from raking in the accolades. They come not only from critics and audiences, but also from numerous film festival judges around the world. The film was originally supposed to be released in the U.S. back in August 2003, but Sony delayed it about six months. It is scheduled to open in New York and Los Angeles with expansion to other markets in short order. (Marty Doskins/BOP)
